The NWCDN is a nationwide and Canadian network of independent law firms. It was created to provide an organization where reputable law firms of the highest reputation and expertise could form a comprehensive network to provide employers and insurers access to the highest quality representation in workers' compensation and related employer liability fields. NWCDN members are committed to providing quality, up-to-date and cost effective legal representation to their clients while adhering to the highest ethical standards of the legal profession. NWCDN itself is committed to the presentation of quality programs and information to member firms and clients that wish to use the network for access to legal representation, advice and expertise. With members located in major cities throughout the United States and Canada, the National Workers' Compensation Defense Network combines a national perspective with an awareness of local workers' compensation law and practice. NWCDN includes one of the largest law firms in Canada, Heenan Blaikie LLP, which is of benefit to those employers in the United States and Canada who have employees working in and subject to the workers' compensation laws of both countries.
The Organization
The National Workers' Compensation Defense Network ("NWCDN") is an organization of independent law firms each with an established Workers' Compensation practice and experience in defending employers and insurance companies in workers' compensation and related actions. Member firms are committed to providing quality representation and information to employers and the insurance industry. It has been the historical belief that workers' compensation issues are matters of purely local or state law. In fact, the trend over the past 10 years is that states are developing similar statutory provisions. NWCDN, cognizant of the antitrust laws, recognizes this developing trend and exists for the purpose of providing national and regional employers and their carriers with access to highly skilled workers' compensation and employment liability defense attorneys throughout the United States and Canada. These attorneys, by identifying and using the talents of their member firms provide claim representation and also information regarding statutory framework, legal climate, litigation avoidance advice and case law relating to workplace injuries and illnesses and litigation arising out of industrial accidents and exposures. Through an association with NWCDN, we believe that many companies with a regional to national exposure to workers' compensation litigation will find it easier to maintain a consistent approach to their workers' compensation program. An additional goal of the organization is to provide a forum through which employers, insurers and risk managers can confer with each other and member firms of the network in regard to their respective experiences in the workers' compensation arena. |
